Tuesday 22June 2021- LEJOG rest day, Tourists in Edinburgh

Written by:

A beautiful sunny morning had us all up and ready to go — by 10.30.

waiting for the tram. Tourist fever!
So remind me again how one works this modern ticket – buying – paying thingy machine ?

We had booked tickets for the Castle but when we got there we found they would not take dogs in so we split up – Carol and I went in first, and then Hisham and Jill after , while we looked after Tessa.

The self guided tour of the castle, without headphones and no tour guides was still pretty awesome, giving you a real sense of Scottish history and the roles of Scottish fighters in various wars.

The Castle Banquet hall.

Carol and I were able to be there for the 1 o’clock cannon salute, although, even when I had my camera trained onto the cannon, as it went off I was so surprised, my hand jerked upwards and all I got was sky (as opposed to the smoke of the cannon) !

spectacular views from all areas up top

We walked 500 miles

had recovery food and drink (well, at least I did)

Found the Gelateria for Italian / Scottish Ice cream (?)

and saw the beautiful architecture of the city.

Sir Walter Scott memorial

covered miles of window shopping

and ended up having the much awaited pizza for early tea.

A thoroughly enjoyable touristy rest day (but to be honest we were all pretty exhausted by the end)

Back in the saddle tomorrow.
