D5- a day on the Island before heading away
Cooked breakfast (no pictures to show for it) then a walk to Lindisfarne castle, and interesting ‘fort’ that has had many uses over the last 500 plus years.

It was a different Lindisfarne today …. Less people, due to the weather and an eerie feeling about it as a result.

The castles’s inside was an interesting mix of one man’s 19 century indulgence and a modern art installation.

…and a short wander back for coffee at Pilgrims coffee house

before returning to the hotel and reading some more AngloSaxon Northumbrian history 🤦♂️ (surprisingly interesting once you get into it)
To alleviate the pressure sores we explored the north bit of Lindisfarne late in the afternoon ….the wind was marginally better and of course the hordes of the morning had crossed the Causeway before the tide covered it once more so the place was pretty deserted ….and beautiful none the less.

Back for supper at the Ship Inn…and I managed to resist the toffee crunch pudding ….but not the Apple and Caramel pie with Ice cream 😂

Ready for the ‘Off’ tomorrow morning .
