D1 -2MOORS WAY – a day of 2 weathers- Wembury to Ivybridge

Written by:

The storm blew over during the night…..twice…and significant wetness ensued in the morning!

Flashback to West Highland Way D3 in 2022?

Still… got to get on.

To the start.

Up through Wembury …

A quick ‘hello’ to Bessie’s cousin

and past quaintly named hamlets such as Spriddlestone. Spriddlestone House sits on a site where the Fortescue family (of Sir Hugh Fortescue 1665-1719 fame?) had a home. The Fortescue had a big part to play in Devon Earldom and the surrounding area.

…..over bubbling brooks / streams / rivers

Now you see me…
Now you don’t- has someone fallen in ?

and at 11:45 the sun came out 🌞

All the layers coming off (well, nearly all).

This is more like it

Needed lunch and a cup of tea badly.

Yealmton with the colourful village sign post

Then onward along river banks, across fields and through woodland. Beautiful autumnal flora and fauna .

…even spotted a few fungi… how could I ever forget them

The final sprint after the village with the crooked spire (Ermington)

The 14 th century crooked spire caused by using unseasoned timber. The chance to straighten it was rejected by local parishioners in 1856 after lightening had struck – ref sue viccars 2019

.. and …this one is for Sue F….the teeny little goats 🥰

On to Ivybridge, our stop for the night at the Sportsman Inn.

..and refreshments… Cup of Tea or two and South African Rusks (thank you Sue).

I’m sure the astute amongst you have noticed I have not added the photos of the humungous lasagna Carol had for supper and the even bigger Carbonara followed by Apple, crumble and custard – lashings of it, that Henrik had 🤣🤣🤣🤣💪💪💪
