St Oswalds way – September 2024

D4- 4th September

4 Stations and an Island

A train journey heading north

And so to the Island

As the Venerable Bede wrote (EH III.3) (c AD 731)… As the tide ebbs and flows, this place is surrounded twice daily by the waves of the sea like an island and twice, when the shore is left dry, it becomes attached again to the mainland.

…and that is sooo true.

Heaving with people until 2 pm when the tide comes in and 90% of the people leave in coaches / cars and it becomes quite peaceful.

The ancient Abbey

Calm scenery

…?maybe a new weaving project for the garden?

Challenge for the next 8 days = RESIST THE STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING EACH NIGHT !

Succeeded this evening at dinner ✔️

Tomorrow we explore Lindisfarne some more before stepping out on Friday across the Causeway and the journey South along the “well signposted path” 🤣

Good Night

There’s something very special about Lindisfarne. Do look out for the foundation’s of the first chapel near the lookout, beyond the harbour
