A beautiful morning

The first church was at Clannaborough, a 16th century church dedicated to St Petroc (a Celt)

Then across more rolling Devon hillsβ¦

β¦ past a sheep or two in need of a haircut

β¦ a railway lineβ¦. The single track Tarka Line (honouring Henry Williamson who wrote Tarka the otter) that was opened in 1854.

..and then we were waylaid by an orchard so had to retrace our steps a little π€¦ββοΈ

β¦Through some high Amazonian maize

..across more fields

..to get to the shop in Morchard Bishop 5 minutes before it closed (Monday closing at noon , whereas Tuesday- Fri it is open until 4)

Morchard Bishop had another delightful 15 th century church, the church of St Mary the Virgin, with a nearly 100 foot high tower. The bell ringers ropes were quite impressiveβ¦almost tempted to give one of them a pull π€

β¦apparently exactly half way along the 2 Moors Way so had to sign the book , naturally

Onwards across Devon countryside

..and past a traditional Cob barn.
Cob was wall building material used for centuries , made up of straw , sand, earth and water.

βCob needs a good hatβ (thatch), to stop it becoming waterlogged.
Onwards

And another church.

it was indeed a βperfect place for a short breakβ(ref Sue Viccars)

And then the short sprint to The Mitre Inn

β¦
Oh and here is one of the many cows / bulls that gave us the beady eye during the day π€£

..maybe it was because I was wearing a red shirt?β¦.
A beautiful day that required a beautiful whisky at the end with supper.

β¦but I did resist the crumble .. I know.. hard to believe.πͺ
