Early start this morning / NOT…
….to the post office to get a BIG Chocolate cookie and a banana each, having planned a late breakfast stop in Craster, three and a bit miles en route.
We actually saw the Horizon for the first time as no fog or mist

🌞
Wandered past Dunstanburgh Castle

The coast that we then followed for most of the day was as good as we remembered it from 30 years ago

Reaching Craster meant it was time to buy a crab sandwich … couldn’t bear thinking about Kippers as it was only 10:30 in the morning.

More stunning coast

…when finally the late breakfast of chocolate cookie and crab sandwich (not in that order) was enjoyed.

…also chatted to a group of walkers on a walking holiday …took a group photo for them (not in this blog for GDPR reasons)
Then time for some bird spotting …

And some bait digging

There also seem to be as many golf courses on this walk as there were on the Cotswold Way. So far we have skirted or walked through the following courses- Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Alnmouth and Warkworth ( I can see a boy’s golfing trip emerging!) .

A late lunch stop in Alnmouth (shared Coronation chicken sandwich, milk shake for me, tea for Carol) got us chatting to a couple who were on holiday in Northumberland for 2 weeks, having previously lived there, and how things have changed etc etc.
Onward having to go a circuitous route around the Aln estuary to head South .
More bird spotting…not all of them quite in focus 🤦♂️

Before the last few miles to Warkworth.

Arrived at our stop for today ….pretty chuffed with the 18 or so miles done 💪

…half way done….half of the Rusks gone / first packet just crumbs .
