Well rested
Up early- bags downstairs for 8 am- weather looking cloudy but warm and brightening up later – no gusts today 👍….much better day for walking than yesterday .
We are going to take the low route along the Swale river today having previously done the high route when we did the James Herriot Way (May 2024).
First down a little bit of the Pennine Way to Keld before we pick up the C2C path again

Then along the beautiful valley of the Swale

This is where you have a choice between the high, middle or low route

Past a few old iron works (there are many more on the high route) and some forces (waterfalls)

These sheep must have had a good night out last night! (They were alive, I saw their ears twitch)

So here is a bit about Swaledale sheep for you

Along the burbling, gurgling, rushing Swale (I hope you note the onomatopoeia there😂)

..and typical Dales scenery appeared all day.

Of course we had to have a bit of a lunch stop on a bench overlooking Gunnerside

…

A shepherd at work…

…the Rescue service?

…all going nice and gently down-hill to Reeth
… and then the landowner doesn’t want you walking through their front garden and the path takes you right back up the hill again🤪🤦♂️

Anyone for some Gin?
Through Healaugh

A very important village… see below

…and back to the river

At last. It had got quite warm and sunny. What was needed was an ice cream!

Before the final mile to Grinton where we were staying.

… no STP on menu … but Crumble – yipeee

Off to Richmond tomorrow – short day, allegedly 10 and a bit miles.
