A day of waterfalls and Lake District visibility .

Things to note this morning

1) at least we didn’t have to take down a wet tent after the night rain

2) It has been noted by the management that there hasn’t been enough chocolate yet, in fact there has not been any chocolate so far so I think there’s a bit of shopping to be had in Grasmere

3) no Crumble and Custard yesterday evening but a very nice sticky toffee pudding. All light and sugary with just enough amount of cream to pour over the top. Maybe there is a comparative competition to be had this next couple of weeks; Crumble (C) versus sticky toffee pudding (STP)

I would rate last nights STP 8 to 9 out of 10.

Just met some walker coming down to us and had a very typical brief ‘walker type’ conversation:

(Said in your best Scouse accent) ‘ah right?. yeah. good Day? brilliant. QUALITY’ – Clare and Harry, this is for you 👍

Beginning to meet the same people as we bunny hop along the path

– the Australian couple from Perth,

– the Australian group of 4 from the Gold Coast. He’s an ex-pat and they’ve done the Coast to Coast twice before so we’re not entirely sure how he’s managed to persuade his other friends to do it.

So… Just a short hike today ‘apart from the fact there’s a great big hill to go up and down’(Carol , quote – unquote) and basically that’s the walk.

Here I am , 300 m up and my quads are saying ‘why are you doing this to me AGAIN?’

As I look up and down the valley you can see the ants coming up 2 by 2 or 1 by 1, and looking down the valley we can see the same 🤣

Note the varying head gear over the course of today 🤭

And upwards we all climb – reminiscent of the Tongariro Crossing up top (or at least when we did it Feb 2024)

…and then we were most grateful to the Rangers from the National Trail who kindly put flagstones across the boggy part between Greenup Edge and Moor Moss …. The book said ‘follow the Cairns’ … oh, there is one … really ?

Needless to say we did not go ‘high’ today – no view to warrant it.

Just in case – triangulate – GPS/ book/ signs / common sense / fellow walkers (although don’t assume they are all going the same way you are

Time for a snack and a cup of tea

There is something quite calming but eerie walking in the low clouds at 550m

Soon we were on the downhill but it still took to 300 m before visibility returned to some form of normal

And then it was a case of just following the Easedale Gill and then the Easedale Beck.

… oh and then the sun came out at around 2 pm 😀

No erudite conversation today – too busy concentrating and watching our footing with some gentle scrambling right up top as well.

Did have a spiritual moment when felt very grateful that we are still fit and able to do this and enjoy it.

Staying at Jacksons guesthouse in Grasmere tonight with Sunday Roast at Tweedies booked for 6 pm 💪

Will report on C or STP tomorrow, assuming they are on the menu – hmmm … what if they have both … do I HAVE TO eat two puddings to be able to do the comparison 🤣🤣🤣🤣…

Wouldn’t be a day in the Lakes without some mist and fog would it – but we missed the rain by starting an hour later than usual #thank you weather radar app.
