After the best dinner and the best breakfast yet at the oldest Inn around (The Olde Ship Inn dates from 1745) we set off for a slightly shorter day’s walk.

Another misty day but not unpleasant

There was a lot of skirting the Dunes and following the sea today… not that you could see much ….brings to mind that old ditty “A sailor went to sea sea sea, to see what he could see see,,,”

We then came to Beadnell Village and sidestepped the path for a few hundred yards to visit St Ebbas church, built c 1740, and dedicated to St Ebba (Aebbe) sister of Oswald (see right hand side of family tree below)

Aebbe became a nun and was described as a ‘holy and discreet abbess’ in her final Abbey that was at St Abbas near Coldingham, north of Berwick. Coldingham was a double monastery (for both monks and nuns) and allegedly the only one involved in ‘scandal’ which consisted of being visited by an angel who found the monks and nuns ‘talking about frivolities rather than praying’ 🤣🤣🤣 (according to the information panel in the St Ebbas church).

We had to recover from this scandal by having a takeaway coffee at the beach hut.

Onward along our journey….across Dunes…along beaches…

Before it became decidedly damper and the rain swept in

Some love it…

…. and then it cleared up a little…
What a view!

We reached our destination beating our cases that are being transported by Carrylite.co.uk (big shout out to them for excellent service).
