Calendar said ‘recharging social battery day’ . Great idea.
Plan a route (from doorstep) / ensure a pub midway / off we go.

Should have taken my secateurs ! (Although unlikely to need those in Cumbria / Yorkshire on the fells and hills.).
….
Where did this motorway suddenly appear from then?

Into the Chamberlayne Estate

Autumn has definitely arrived early due to the hot weather and lack of water.

No walk is complete without a philosophical question….

So now you know 🤣
Even in the dry there is the prospect of …yea, you have guessed it …fungi! Yippeee.

Unfortunately the woodland is not immune to disease.. Ash Dieback…can witness it in our garden too as have 2-3 Ash trees around the perimeter.

Still.. Something beautiful about early Autumn none the less

All of the above is in Cranbury Park – “formerly home to Sir Isaac Newton and later to the Chamberlyne Family’ (Wikipedia). Contains a castle built from fragments of Netley Abbey in Southampton after Thomas Dummer moved the stones here in the 1770’s.

So… Southern Water doing some major works around the whole of Hampshire and this includes pipe laying through Cranbury Park.

ChatGpT says the following:
“The big picture
Southern Water says it is investing £858 million across Hampshire in the current programme. This isn’t simply routine maintenance: there are several large infrastructure projects running simultaneously.
New major water pipeline
Otterbourne → Southampton
Move water around the network and improve resilience
Replacing old water mains
14 locations across Hampshire
Reduce bursts and leakage
Otterbourne improvements
Winchester area
Upgrade treatment and pumping infrastructure”

Must be lunchtime

And for those of you who do LDW’s , a good tip is to get some air to the feet and change socks half way. Makes you feel so much better. As does a fresh T shirt after lunch.

After a short break homeward bound .

A typical English Sunday afternoon… CRICKET !

Ampfield and Potters Heron followed on the home straight.

Then home for a very LARGE cup of tea 👍
